Our Key Products

EffRx’s most advanced project is focused on the development and commercialization of an effervescent formulation of Alendronate, an effective osteoporosis drug (EX101).

EX101 is formulated to be a "Best in Class" product by improving dosing convenience and targeting a reduced GI side effect profile. EX101 is suitable for all osteoporosis patients prescribed bisphosphonates, and may be especially appreciated by those patients who do not tolerate Fosamax® and other bisphosphonate tablets (see illustration and data from pH-telemetry study).  The primary objective is to address the well documented compliance and adherence problems with this class of drugs, with favorable health economics outcome.

EffRx’s product pipeline includes several other products in different therapeutic areas.  Of these, the most advanced products are for xerostomia (dry mouth) and related supportive oncology applications.  

The following table presents the development stage for each product.

• No tablet to swallow (leading issue when FDA mandated 30-60 minutes vertical waiting time for oral bisphosphonates) 
• Soluble Form means there is no tablet to lodge in the esophagus; EX101 is fully rinsed into the stomach
• EX101 is administered in half the volume of water (120 ml) compared with dosing recommendation for the tablet
• It is accepted that bisphosphonates in the presence of acid (below pH 3) can cause mucosal injury.

  • Significantly reduced stomach acidity after dosing with EX101, pH stays above 3
